Low Income Housing In Little Rock, Arkansas

Little Rock Low Income HousingThe Community Development Block Grant and Housing Programs Division of the Little Rock city government is responsible for developing and managing affordable and low income housing programs for Little Rock low-income residents.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is actually a federal government program dating back to 1974 which has benefited Little Rock residents whose household incomes do not exceed 80% of the area median income. Little Rock even has a Citizen Participation Plan that allows residents to recommend neighborhood projects to the city government for consideration.

Little Rock's Homebuyers Assistance Grants (HAG) are more flexible than some cities, allowing qualifying first-time low-income homebuyers to choose a home anywhere in the city with the grant money paying $1,500 for downpayment, closing costs and prepaids. The city also purchases and rehabilitates homes that are then offered for sale to low income homebuyers at an affordable price.

Low-income residents who already own their own home can get financial assistance to make necessary repairs to their home. Fifty percent of the cost is the homeowner's responsibility and the other 50% is paid by the city in the form of a loan that is forgiven after 5-10 years. This is called a Leveraged Rehabilitation Loan.
